Be an Ageless Wonder

Every day, someone celebrates a birthday. They think to themselves, “Great, another year older.” They then start considering how many more days they have left with family and friends. Getting old doesn’t mean you’re over the hill. Age is just a number. Many people truly believe they are only as old as they feel. Grandparents in their late 80s love to live life like they are still in their 20s. There are activities out there that were enjoyed as kids that people should start doing again to help them feel younger. Everything from jumping rope to family vacations allows people to feel young again.

Let’s walk down memory lane

Everybody remembers the good old days of the playground where your only worry was whether or not it would rain and you would have to go in early. You could go pass a school right now and see children playing the same schoolyard games as you did growing up.  These are games you can play at home with the right supplies. If you don’t have them laying around for your kids or grandkids, head to your local dollar store and make an inexpensive purchase.  Your kids and/or grandkids will also be impressed you want to do something with them.

Grab some sidewalk chalk and draw hopscotch.  Once you have that game drawn, find a stone you can toss into the squares. Once the stone lands, start hopping and avoid the numbered square with the stone in it.

If you don’t want to go around hopping on one leg through squares, find some rope and start jumping.  Jumping rope is a great way to burn some calories and have a bunch of laughs with family and friends. If you are by yourself, start jumping and try to set records. If there is a bunch of you, grab two ropes and start jumping double-Dutch style.

Wild and Crazy

Forget about responsibilities for a few hours or even a day. Wear mismatched socks, shoes, and clothes. Want to be a risk taker? Go out in public wearing your mismatched creation. Sure, you’ll get a lot of strange looks, but you’ll have a good laugh yourself knowing you have no worries or troubles on your mind. Another thing that will help you feel like a kid: If a stranger does give you a weird look, make a silly face back at them. Nothing will make you feel more childish. Promise.

No worries at Work Either

Tired of feeling down at work about that huge to-do list sitting on your desk? Why not think of something fun to do to help you keep your sanity? Hide a coloring book at your desk and while you are eating lunch, color a random page. Just make sure to stay in the lines! Others around you seem down? Start whistling a catchy tune, such as “This is the song that never ends.” Who knows how long that could go on for if your coworkers join in? Another way to unleash your inner five year old? Skip. Not only will others get a laugh, but you’ll be laughing as well.

These are just a few ways that allow your inner five year old to make an appearance every now and then. Always remember that no matter how old you get, never forget how to be a kid. These activities allow you to forget about responsibilities every now and then and just relax. To quote The Lion King, “hakuna matata,” meaning “there are no worries.” Just remember that, and you’ll be an ageless wonder in no time.
